Respected Sir/Madam,
Namaskar,
In the inaugural issue in November 2007, we tried to informally introduce ourselves. From the feedback received we are glad that you have welcomed our effort. All our actions are for Lokakshema i.e. welfare of the universe and Shri Guruji has been our guiding spirit.

Shri P.S.Varadarajan (Guruji)

Shri Guruji believes in simple living and high thinking He does not believe in any outward show. He makes each and everyone feel at ease and is always ready to help everyone. When I (Hari Krishnamurthy) had gone to meet him in January 2007 during his visit to Delhi in connection with Kumbhabishekam of Sree Meenakshi Temple at Shalimar Bagh, New Delhi, I was overawed by his presence. I had wanted to ask him so many things but was dumbstruck in his presence. I felt I had got everything I wanted without even uttering a word. From that moment he was my Guru I had read some where that there is an oriental proverb “one need not search for a Guru, when the student is ready the teacher would just find him”. I found that proverb to be true in my case. In the last eleven months his grace has elevated me spiritually to a level beyond imagination. Recently during his visit for Sarva Devata Homam in September 2007, he asked me to control my anger He had not asked anything from me but wanted me to be a better human being, so from that moment onwards I had shed my anger totally and till today I am enjoying the benefit. From a non existent common ordinary person people now respect me because of his benevolence. Without my asking Shri Guruji chants for me and my family and when I enquired about this to him he smilingly replied that he did this for all the people who had come into contact with him. This fact was confirmed by all others whom I met in the presence of Shri Guruji. We may have prejudices, petty quarrels with our own folk and here is a person who does not know any thing else but selfless love, affection and benevolence. I had then decided that if ever my life was to be dedicated to some one it was Shri Guruji. After taking this decision I consulted the matter with my wife and she too agreed. Since then I am doing what you all are experiencing. This vishwa kalyan issue too is just my way of submitting flowers at Shri Guruji’s feet. I request you all too to kindly correct me, suggest, and guide me to make this news letter a useful and purposeful effort.

We welcome you all to benefit from the divine blessings of Shri Guruji and reduce your sufferings, problems, etc. Shri Guruji has no reservations about caste, creed, colour, nationality, religion, etc as he only believes in service to entire mankind as his mission. You may send in your queries to lokakshemamission @gmail.com.

I am sharing with you all the thoughts Shri Guruji shared with me and others during his stay in Delhi during September 2007.

There are 20 energy forces in the Cosmos 11 in the upper strata and 9 in the lower strata. These 20 energy forces control the lives of all living things in the universe and planets beyond this universe. The nine planets or navagrahas as we call them represent nine forces in the lower strata which determine the fate of all living things. Our lives are decided by our Karma or deeds both good and bad. One’s Karma phal decides the family he or she is to be born, the life and facilities, etc. Since everything is according to the Karma phal then why we blame God that he has not bestowed us the things he had given to others. We have the remedy in our hands Let us change ourselves and be helpful, courteous, kind to others. Why should we make our lives miserable and unhappy when we can enjoy the same with others sharing the happiness and sorrows as our own and make this world a nice place to live? The concept of “Lokakshema” which means welfare of the universe was born out of this thought only The Trust was established so as to give each and every one us to partake in its activities and do as per our mite.
Lokakshema Trust is a trust of the people, by the people and for the people. So we may help others and inspire others to be kind and helpful to others and be beneficial to society and the world.

I will share more thoughts with you in forthcoming issues. You may also share your experiences.

For the benefit of our readers we give you some frequently asked questions.
Why should we perform these homam pujas or japas?
Our homams and pujas have benefited many persons to achieve various benefits or to overcome huge difficulties. There are many satisfied and regular members who conduct these. We advice all to perform these at-least once in a year, on their star birthday.
When can I expect some benefits out of these?
You will achieve the desired result after successfully conducting these homams, pujas or Japam after the expiry of 48 days.
Can I conduct these homams for issues relating to office or business also?
Yes. There are special homams which are meant to achieve success in business or official affairs. The emphasis on these homams will be on the special 'Sankalpa' wherein these benefits will be prayed for. You can perform these homams for business development, career success etc. also.
What homam is suitable for me?

How is the homam performed?
Each homam is performed strictly according to scriptures. These are conducted by fully learned and experienced Vedic scholars. The ingredients required for these homams are different for each homams. Each homam is performed after praying (Sankalpa) for the specific relief / benefit desired for each individual. After each homam, all pundits are fed with Vedic prayers.
What facilities are available if I also attend?
All performers and people attending these homams are given food for the day along with Vedic scholars, performing this homam. Also, desired prasadam is given to everybody.

The date and timing of these homams are carefully chosen after studying the star and the purpose of these homams. Generally, these homams commence between 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. However, Pujas can be performed during evenings also (subject to certain conditions). Some pujas can be preferably done evenings only. The duration and the method of the homam also vary depending on the purpose.

Each homam is performed normally for specific person or a single family. However, in special cases when the problem is common, other person / family is also included while performing that homam and the cost is shared between participating persons/families.
How many days' notice would you need?
We do only a single homam per day. Therefore, it is better if you finalize the details at-least 10 days before the desired date.
What if I can't afford any homam, puja or japam?
We conduct free programs for all deserving cases from time to time. We perform the Sankalpa for all such cases. These are included in our monthly special homam and pujas. We will send prasadam to such individuals on request.
How much do homams cost? How do I pay?
The cost varies depending on many factors (like type of homam, duration, number of participants etc.) which can't be finalized for all. Please write to us , email us or call us about your need and we will let you know the amount involved. You can pay by cash, M.O., Cheque or Demand Draft in favour of Lokakshema International Mission Trust payable in New Delhi

These Homams will be performed in Chennai, or at any suitable place as per the divine approval. We will work together with local resources to arrange the best, most proficient pundits, well versed in mantra shastra. The pujas require from 1 to 12 pundits, depending upon the Puja are selected. This chapter is based on [Rama:1.11-1.18].
King Dasharatha traveled to the kingdom of Anga, accompanied by his queens and his ministers. His kinsman Romapada, the King of Anga, welcomed the royal party with all due honor. After enquiries about mutual welfare were exchanged, Dasharatha introduced the topic of his visit.
He said, "My dear friend, you know that I am childless and desirous of progeny. It has been foretold by the great sage Sanat Kumara that only Rishyashringa, the husband of your daughter Shanta, can conduct the ritual that can give me children. In the absence of his father Vibhandaka, you are like a father to him. Kindly accompany him to Ayodhya with your family, and enable me to conduct the Ashwamedha Yagna for obtaining offspring."
Romapada said, "Dear King, It has been said that a man without a son cannot aspire to reach the blessed regions of his ancestors. I would be greatly honored if my son-in-law can help in the propagation of the Ikshvaku dynasty. I shall certainly be present at this noble Yagna to be conducted by Rishyashringa."
With these words, Romapada then sent a messenger to inform Rishyashringa about the request made by King Dasharatha. After the consent of that Brahmana was obtained, Dasharatha returned to his Kingdom of Kosala and made preparations for the Yagna.
The entire town of Ayodhya was decorated in preparation for the vedic ritual. Many eminent scholars were invited to participate and observe the ceremony. The citizens were eagerly awaiting for the day of the Yagna, for that was the day they would obtain a heir to the throne. When the eminent Ritwik Rishyashringa arrived, the King and his ministers received him at the city gates and greeted him with the sounding of conch shells and drum beats. Dasharatha then took Rishyashringa to the palace and offered him worship as ordained in the scriptures and formally invested him with the office of the chief-conductor of sacrifices. When he beheld the radiance born of knowledge and penance emanating from the young Rishi, Dasharatha rejoiced, and considered that his wish was as good as fulfilled. Shanta, the wife of Rishyashringa was similarly welcomed and worshiped by the women of the royal family.
Before performing a Vedic ritual of the highest order, the Yajaman (performer, here Dasharatha) has to observe various subordinate rituals and prepare himself for a period of one year. Dasharatha observed these rituals diligently under the supervision of Rishyashringa and became eligible to perform the sacrifice at the beginning of the spring of the next year.
At the end of the year long penance, Dasharatha requested his chief-priest Vasishta to begin the main ritual. The sage Vasishta then instructed Brahmana scholars, talented architects and other experts to construct the ritual hall in accordance with the scriptures. Some of the close allies of Dasharatha had come to stay in Ayodhya a year ago, to participate in the festivities surrounding the Vedic ritual. Rest of his allies were invited to grace the occasion now. Among the Kings who came to participate in the sacrifice were: Janaka, the king of Mithila, the King of Kashi, Dasharatha's father-in-law the King of Kekeya and his sons, Romapada the King of Anga, Bhanumanta the King of Kosala, Praptijna the King of Magadha, and many others. These kings brought many costly gifts to affirm their affection for Dasharatha.
At the appointed auspicious hour, the Brahmanas led by Rishyashringa and guided by Vasishta entered the ritual hall. First, King Dasharatha and his wives took formal vows for conducting the ritual. With the installation of the Yajaman of the Yagna, the ritual commenced. The air was filled with the vibrations from the ritual chanting of the Vedas. One by one, all the Gods were invoked and oblations were poured into the ritual fire for them. With the faultless Rishyashringa and noble Vasishta directing the ceremony, there was not even the smallest mistake in the customary rites.
Durin the Yagna, all those arrived in the city were fed sumptuously. None went hungry during the ceremony. While the oblations were being offered in the central hall, many debates and other scholarly contests were conducted in the outer buildings. Plays were staged, musical and dance performances were also conducted for the entertainment of the assembled guests.
The main sacrificial hall was in the shape of a great eagle, symbolizing the flight of Garuda, the mount of Lord Vishnu. The wings of this altar were decorated with pure gold. Countless animals of all kinds were readied to be sacrificed to the Gods as ordained in the scriptures. Of course, the main sacrifice was that of the horse, that had already been killed. The three wives of king Dasharatha symbolically pierced the dead animal with needle like golden knives to signify that it was being offered to the Gods.
Queen Kausalya, the chief-queen of Dasharatha spent a night with the dead horse. Then the ritual offering of all the wealth of the King to the Ritwiks of the sacrifice was performed. The King symbolically donated his kingdom, his cattle, his wives to the Ritwiks, and redeemed them immediately..
Then the King donated land and millions of cattle to the four chief priests of the sacrifice. Untold wealth in gold was also distributed to the other Brahmanas who assisted in the sacrifice. Gladdened by these meritorious deeds of Dasharatha, Rishyashringa blessed him, saying, "You will obtain four illustrious sons."
After finishing the Ashwamedha Yagna, the Putra Kameshti ritual was begun for the purpose of obtaining progeny. As that ritual was conducted, the Gods and other noble souls assembled in the skies to receive their share of the sacrificial oblations. Seeing that Lord Brahma was amongst the assembled multitude, Indra said to him, "Sire, the ravages of that Rakshasa Ravana have become intolerable. Armed with boons from Lord Shiva, he has become invincible. You have also blessed him with many powerful boons and that has made him arrogant. He is torturing the sages, celestials and even the Brahmanas. Please suggest a way to end this misery."
Lord Brahma said, "He has obtained a boon that he shall not be slain by the Devas, the divine beings, Gandharvas, the Yakshas or by the Rakshasas. He has omitted humans from this list, thinking them of no account. Therein lies the means of his death. Do not worry, for Lord Vishnu shall be incarnated as a mortal and slay him."
Meanwhile, Rishyashringa began pouring the sacrificial oblations into the altar, accompanied by the chants from the Atharva Veda. From the sacrificial fire, there arose a divine being, the Prajapatya pursha , who held a glowing vessel in his hands. He was clad in red and black, had a fierce moustache and his voice was like that of rolling thunder. This deity turned towards King Dasharatha and said, "O King, know me to be the messenger of Prajapati."
The King revered him with folded hands and bowed head and said, "O divine being, welcome to my realm. I have conducted this ritual with the intention of obtaining progeny. What should I do next?"
The being then said, "Look O King, at this golden vessel, glowing like the midday sun, and covered with silver lid of intricate workmanship. It contains the divine dessert that is the result of your worship. Pleased with your devotions, the Gods have sent me to offer you this son-giving divine dessert as your portion. Let this be consumed by your wives, they shall bear children in course of time."
Gratified, the King accepted the vessel from the deity. Then he worshiped him by circumambulating both the deity and the sacrificial fire. The Prajapatya pursha then disappeared back into the fire.
The King then gave half of the dessert to his first queen Kausalya. He gave one fourth to queen Sumitra and one eighth to queen Kaikeyi. He then saw that there was still one eighth of the dessert left, so he gave it again to Sumitra, who was thus fed twice. By the power of the divine dessert, all three soon became pregnant.
When the final rites of the sacrifice were completed, the festivities came to an end. One by one, the various Kings who had come to witness the Vedic ritual took their leave. Romapada went back to Anga, accompanied by his daughter Shanta and son-in-law Rishyashringa, who had obtained great wealth as the chief Ritwik of the ritual.
Twelve months after the completion of the Ashwamedha, on the ninth day of the month of Chaitra, when the star Punarvasu was ascendant, and the presiding deity of the star was Aditi, when the planets Sun, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Venus were at their highest position, when Jupiter and moon were ascendant in the sign of Cancer, Queen Kausalya gave birth to a son possessed of all divine attributes. This lotus-red eyed, long armed, rose-lipped boy, the incarnation of Vishnu was named Rama. Kausalya was radiant with her son Rama in her arms, as Aditi had shone with her son Indra in days of yore.
Soon after, Kaikeyi gave birth to Bharata, who would be famed for his sense of justice. Queen Sumitra gave birth to the twins Laxmana and Shatrughna, who would become great warriors, skilled in all weapons. Bharata was born under the sign Pisces, with the star Pushyami ascendant. The twins were born under the sign Cancer, with the star Aslesha ascendant.
The people rejoiced at the birth of their princes. The king gave rich gifts to bards, panegyrists, to Brahmanas and other worthy people. He gave away thousands of heads of cattle to mark the occasion. Eleven days after the birth of the princes, the naming ceremony was held, presided over by the chief-priest Vasishta. The four brothers grew up, delighting their parents by their childish antics and their mutual affection.
Santhana Gopala Homa is performed to appease Lord Vishnu - the preserver of the world – in order to gain healthy successors and all success in one’s ventures.
The hymns, 16 in number, glorifying Lord Vishnu as the Purusha - the primitive being with innumerable heads, eyes and feet - are chanted. It also explains the occurrence of different species from his various limbs. These hymns also represent various parts of the human body.
It is believed that Santhana Gopala Homa is same as that of the Putra Kameshti Yagna depicted in the Ramayana.

Homams are pujas performed for a particular deity by invoking Agni , the God of fire

Here is another reference in Sri Devi Puranam

Sri Meenakshi Devi is the incarnation of Parashakti. The sthala purana has it that the King Malaya Dhwaja, a great devotee of Lord Shiva was childless and hence conducted Puthra Kameshti yagna. Goddess Parvathi was born and named as Meenakshi (Her eyes+ being in the shape of fish).

MAYA AND ILLUSION - Swam Vivekananda
Attempts have been made in Germany to build a system of philosophy on the basis that the Infinite has become the finite. Such attempts are also made in England. And the analysis of the position of these philosophers is this, that the Infinite is trying to express itself in this universe, and that there will come a time when the Infinite will succeed in doing so. It is all very well, and we have used the words Infinite and manifestation and expression, and so on, but philosophers naturally ask for a logical fundamental basis for the statement that the finite can fully express the Infinite. The Absolute and the Infinite can become this universe only by limitation. Everything must be limited that comes through the senses, or through the mind, or through the intellect; and for the limited to be the unlimited is simply absurd, and can never be. The Vedanta, on the other hand, says that it is true that the Absolute or the Infinite is trying to express itself in the finite, but there will come a time when it will find that it is impossible, and it will then have to beat a retreat, and this beating a retreat means renunciation which is the real beginning of religion. Nowadays it is very hard even to talk of renunciation. It was said of me in America that I was a man who came out of a land that had been dead and buried for five thousand years, and talked of renunciation. So says, perhaps, the English philosopher. Yet it is true that that is the only path to religion. Renounce and give up. What did Christ say? "He that loseth his life for my sake shall find it." Again and again did he preach renunciation as the only way to perfection. There comes a time when the mind awakes from this long and dreary dream -- the child gives up its play and wants to go back to its mother. It finds the truth of the statement, "Desire is never satisfied by the enjoyment of desires, it only increases the more, as fire, when butter is poured upon it."

Translation of Purusha Suktham
b]sahasra SIrshA purusha: | sahasrAksha: sahasrapAt |

(sahasra) Thousands (SIrshA) of heads has (purusha:)the great being.
(sahasra) Thousands of (aksha) eyes has he,(sahasra pAt) and thousands of legs.
(sa) He (vRtvA)manifests
(bhUmim) the world. (atyatishTat) He stands
beyond (daSAngulam) the count of ten fingers.

The words ``purusha'' in its most literal sense means man. This is not a generic for human, but includes the masculine sense and principle of the world. In one way, it is interpreted as Narayana alone is purusha, and all the rest of prakriti, creation, is female. Purusha may also be split as pura + usha -- the dawn-light (usha) of the city of the body (pura). Or pu + rusha, one whose passions are refined. Or even puru + sha, filled with wisdom and happiness. Which purusha is referred to here?

Man - is a simple answer, with some merit for its arguments. Man was created first, and he is a creature that knows not its own glory, and he is sacrificed for the rest of creation -- a humbling thought for us.

However, theistic and mystic sources tend to interpret purusha as Parama Purusha, the Supreme Purusha, Purushottama, the best among purushas, Sriman Narayana. He is the source and the basis of all creation, he manifests himself in all of it. All creation is his body -- the vishvaroopa mahAkAya. He encompasses it.

So why does this Purusha have thousands of feet, hands, eyes? One must remember that large numbers, like a thousand, can refer to a fuzzy ``uncountable''. SAyaNAcArya interprets this as the Purusha manifesting himself in all that lives. And since all was created from his body, as we shall see, all heads are his heads, all eyes his eyes, all feet his feet.

"With uncounted heads Uncounted eyes, and Uncounted feet, He Moves, as all of
Creation Verily is He Uncountable.Beyond the grasp Of the hands of men. "

(purusha) purusha (eva) alone (idam sarvam) is all
of this, (yad bhUtam) that which was, (yac ca bhavyam) and
that which is too be. (uta) Moreover (amRtatvasya) of
immortality too (IshAna) is he alone Lord. (yad) That
which (annena) as food (atirohati) shows itself, that too is
purusha.

Purusha is creation, this we know. In time, he is all that is, all that was, and all that is to be. Does he have an end, like death ? No. He is Lord of immortality, of the eternal that dies not (a-mRta).

Creation feeds on itself. It requires food to grow, to flourish. What is food but other life? Life feeds on life, be it plant, or animal life. This is why we say the world grows on food, the world is fill of food (annamayam jagat). All that is hidden in creation, and all that emerges, to show itself and be food, all this is purusha. He sustains creation as food.

"That which is, Was, and is to be. All of this Is he alone.
And the eternal,Beyond all end, He is Lord, Alone, of that.

The world is food.. That which hides,
And ventures forth, He is that too."

in heaven, (amRtam) where they are eternal.

This world of name and form (nAma-rUpa-bheda- jagat) is but one part of Purusha. Sat (truth), cit (being) and
Ananda (bliss) are the other three parts, that rest in Narayana alone, and are eternal in him. As Sri Krishna says in the Gita (10-42), ma eka amSena sthito jagat -- By a fraction of my yogic powers alone I sustain this world. And he is the one whose sport is this world, who sports without distinction of name or form. (rUpa nAma vibhedena jagat krIdati yo yathA).

" All that you see Is but his glory
He is more Than all of this
All of creation Is but a fourth of him.
Three parts eternal Rest in him alone."

tripAd Urdhva udait purusha: | pAdo 'syehAbhavatpuna: |
tato vishva.n vyakrAmat | sASanAnaSane abhi || 4 ||

(tripAd) Three parts (purusha:) of the purusha (udait) rise
above, (Urdhva) above all creation. (pAda:) One part alone
(asya) of his (iha) is here (abhavat) manifested (puna:) again and again.
(tata) From that part did (sASana - anaSana) beings that eat and eat not,
(vishvak) all of these (abhivyAkramat) did come forth.

Ranganathamuni comments on the greatness of the Purusha who looms above all creation. he is filled with
grace and all joy, knowledge, and goodness. He is eternal, and the basis of all. The world's sustenance is but his sport. His joy is himself, as he is all. That besides, even the Vedas wonder about his greatness. ``so anga veda yadi vA na veda.'' He alone knows -- or maybe he knows not. (Rg Veda, nAsadIya sUkta).

The way ``yad annenAtirohati'' and ``sASanAnaSane abhi vyAkramat'' are interpreted is a point of some discussion. Peterson, Renou, and LeMee, who give simply ``man'' for Purusha, interpret these as ``man, who grows by food'', ``a part of man was made into all things that eat and eat not, and advanced towards these/as these, outwards''. I prefer sAyaNA's interpretation, as given above. Not only is the importance of food stressed, two verses before, but now Purusha is also that which eats not, life and non-life. This is in conformity with the Visistadvaita view of Brahman manifest as cit and acit, living and inert.

" Three parts of his Are beyond all this All of this, is but a part.
Again and again, All that eats, And that eats not Appeared from this
One part of His."

tasmAt virAd ajAyata | virAjo adhipUrusha : |
sa jAto atyaricyata | pashcAd bhUmimatho pura: || 5 ||

(tasmAt) from that great purusha (virAt) did the shining universe (ajAyata) come forth. (virAjo adhi) From that virAt, with its needs in heart (purusha:) came forth Brahma, to care for it. (sa) He (jAta:) was born (ati aricyata) and grew very large, extending (pascAt) in front (bhUmim) of the earth (ata:) and then (pura:) behind.

From Purusha came forth the universe. The creative aspect of his, Brahma, came forth, and grew to include everything in himself. This is why the universe is called ``bramhAnda'', the egg/sphere of Brahma. ``BramhAnda'' is also an adjective indicating magnitude. This image of extending above and on all sides of the earth is in concordance with Ranganathamuni.

What did this Brahma do after he was born ? SAyaNA gives the following interpretation. He grows very large after being born (sa jAto atyaricyata). And then (pascAt) he (sa) creates the earth (bhUmim) and then (ata:), (pura:) -- cities -- bodies for creatures to live in. ``virAt vyaktRkto deva-tiryag-manushyAdi rUpo 'bhUt''. He became large and became the bodies, or gave form to devas, animals (tiryak) and humans.

There is support for the former view from the sAkalya brAhmaNa, however. In this work, Aniruddha Narayana, one of the four aspects of Narayana in the first tier of the Vishaka Yupa, appears to Brahma. This Bramha, engorged with growth as it were, is inactive, he does nothing. Aniruddha asks him the reason for his inactivity ``brahman kim tUshNIm bhavasi - iti'' and Brahma replies, ``Because of not knowing'' - ``ajnAnAt - iti hovAca''. However, Brahma has to create. This is his nature. So to remove his ignorance, Aniruddha Narayana instructs him to perform sRshTi yajna, the sacrifice of creation.
In the brAhmaNa, this is termed kAncana yajna, the rite of gold. ``brahman sRshtyartham kAncana yajnam kuru''. By this means will you be able to create the worlds, as you have in kalpas past. The rest of Aniruddha Narayana's instructions and the details of the srSHti yagnya are given in the verses to come.

"From him came forth The bright Universe
And he became a Creator For its sake
And so he created The verdant Earth
And creation Was his body."

yatpurushena havishA | devA yajnam atanvata |
vasanto asyAsI-dAjyam | grIshma idhma Saraddhavi: || 6 ||

(yat) That (yajna) rite that (devA:) the gods (atanvata)performed, (purushena) with the Purusha himself as (havishA) havis, the fire offering, (vasanta) the Spring (AsIt) became (Ajyam) its ghee. (grIshma) The summer became its (idhma) samit-wood firebrand, (Sarad) Autumn became (havi:) its burn offering.

What sort of yajna is this sRshTi yajna? Nothing exists but Brahma-purusha, who envelops all. Logically, none of the ritual paraphernalia, the materiel, exist. It does not make consistent sense, to me, to look at this as an actual rite of ``sacrifice, where the gods sacrificed a giant to create the world'', as this has sometimes been decribed. This was in a comparative work that compared the Purusha Suktam to the Norse tale of how the Aesir made the world from the body of Ymir, the frost-giant.

Consider however the traditional view of this as a mAnasa yajna, a meditative sacrifice, of and in the heart, the first gedankeneksperiment, if you will!
The sRshTi yajna was Purusha's alone. He was havirbhokta, he who enjoys/eats the havis burnt offerings to the fire. His senses were the devas, the gods, who were the ritvik-priests of this sacrifice. Nothing but himself existed to sacrifice. And so he sacrificed himself (purusheNa havisha)as the offering into the creative fires of his heart. A sacrifice of his self to himself, for what or who existed but he? So the devas bound Brahma as the beast of sacrifice, and made ready for the rite.

Clarified butter, or ghee, is what is poured on the fire to make it burn brighter. The fire of course, is an essential part of any sacrifice. Fire is what speeds betweeen heaven and earth carrying the food of sacrificial havis offerings to the gods. Spring brightens creation as the ghee brightens fire. Samit (palAS, flame of the forest) twigs are fed to the fire, to make it hotter -- these samit brands are Summer. Autumn with its brilliant hues was offered into the fire as havis.

"Spring was the ghee That brightened the fire
Summer the wood That fueled it
Autumn was burnt In this great rite
That the gods sacrificed The Purusha in."

saptAsyA san paridaya: | tri: sapta: samida: krtA: |
deva yad yajnam tanvAnA: | abadhnan purusham paSum || 7 ||

(asya) For this sacrifice (sapta) seven were (paridaya:) the
sheathing logs, the fences. (tri:sapta) Thrice-seven, that is
twenty one (samida:) the samit-wood firebrands (krtA:) made,
(yad yajnam) for the sacrifice for which (devA:) the gods
as (tanvAnA:) as performers of the sacrifice (abadhnan) bound
(purusham) the purusha (paSum) as the beast of sacrifice.

The yAgAgni, the sacred fire of the sacrifice, is invoked on a vedi, or altar, that is always sheathed, or fenced.
sAyaNA gives us this: ``aishTikasyAvAhavanIyasya traya: paridaya: uttaravedikAstraya: AdityaSca saptama:
paridhi pratinidhi rUpa:''. Three fences are in the uttaravedi part, three in the AvAhanIya, and Aditya is the
seventh sheath, or fence.

Nothing had been created at this point. So what were the paridi-s? The seven chandas-s, or metres, gAyatri, trishTup, brhatee, pankti, ushNuk, anushtup, and jagatI may be the seven here. However, later verses would seem to go against this hypothesis. The chandas-s seem to be later creations, as the basis of speech. The maitrAyaNi upanishad suggests prthvi (earth), ap (water), tejas (fire), vAyu ( air), AkASa (space), ahamkAra (ego), and buddhi (intellect) as these seven. The five elements or panchabhUtas among these, (prthvi, ap, tejas, vAyu, AkASa), along with the five subtle principles or tanmAtras, the five active senses or karmendriyas, the five discerning senses or jnAnendriyas, combined with anta:karaNam, darkening, are said to be the twenty one samit firebrands, in the painkI brAhmaNa.

"Seven were the fencing logs Thrice seven the firebrands made
When the gods bound the Purusha As the beast for their sacrifice. "

tam yajnam barhishi prokshan | purusham jAtam agrata: |
tena devA ayajanta | sAdhyA RshayaS ca ye || 8 ||

(tam) That (purusham) purusha (yajnam) of the sacrifice,
(jAtam) who was (agrata:) in the beginning, (sAdhyA:) those
achievers (prokshan) sprinkled him with holy water (barhishi)
on the sacrificial bed of straw. (tena) By this means (devA
RshayaS ca) did the gods and the seers (ye) who where,
(ayajanta) sacrifice.

Here is the Purusha himself bound as the beast of sacrifice. This beast has to be sanctificed, on a sacred bed of straw, with holy water. The word barhis indicates this straw. According to the Yogaratna, virAt (the all), barhis and prakriti are synonyms. In this sense, all of nature is the stage for this sacrifice, and Purusha the sacrifice to be offered. He was firstborn and foremost of creation. The word sAdhyA: according to Ranganathamuni includes all devas, RSHis, suras, and dwellers of Vaikuntha. However, in other places, it has been interpreted to mean something like an analogue to ``bodhisattva'' -- those who have the potential of freedom from time, but have not yet actually achieved it. In the sense that SAdhyam indicates possibility of achievement, I tend towards this view.

"Him, firstborn of all of this The sanctified, on a bed of straw
By Him did the seers, Those great ones,
By Him did the gods too Sacrifice. "

Why is the belief in God so strong? Please answer!?
God is One with no name but has been given many, many names by humankind. The kingdom of God is closed to none who seek it with a pure heart. If you were a Loving Mystical Being, Creator of the Universe, would you set things up so simply that there was only one road leading to this kingdom you want all to share?

Ask any parent with multiple children. They have different personalities, different needs. Thus a parent must take different approaches in rearing them. And the way you parent a 4 yr old will be different than how you parent a 15 yr old.

Always know you are loved beyond your wildest dreams. A person's beliefs, not just religious beliefs, but all beliefs are their most personal possessions. Your beliefs are the foundation of everything you are, how you think, how you judge, how you relate to the world around you. They are, in effect, what makes you an individual. Is it any wonder then why belief-based arguments, be they religious, political or otherwise are often the most brutal? That which you're attacking or defending is, after all, the core of a persons very being.

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
Be strong! Don’t talk of ghosts and devils. We are the living devils. The sign of life is strength and growth. The sign of death is weakness. Whatever is weak, avoid! It is death. If it is strength, go down into hell and get hold of it! There is salvation only for the brave.
